Many
foreign guests, who come to visit the Orchid
Garden, buy an orchid plant to place it in their
hotel room or hang it on the verandah of their bungalow
to enjoy the beautiful flowers during their stay
in Khaolak. Other guests are interested in souvenirs
that are related to orchids or different from the
usual ones and easier to take home than orchid flowers.
Therefore,
a small shop is attached to Orchid Garden Khaolak,
filled with some nice souvenirs from all over Thailand:
small artificial orchids that are looking so similar
to the real ones that some visitors at first glance
do not believe they are artificial. They are made
from 'Japanese Clay'.
Nice
and inexpensive gifts are floating candles
in the shape of different orchid flowers. They produce
a light fragrance when burning and it is easy to
handle them, as they can be burnt in a cup of water.
'Miss
Udorn Sunshine', the only perfume in the
world that uses orchids as raw material, is also
on sale. This perfume is a very special gift and
a typical memory to your holiday in Thailand.
I also
have marvelous jewelry creations. They
are made from real orchids, which have been covered
with a protective coating and are then lowered into
tanks of base metal for 12-14 hours, depending on
the orchids' size and form. This preserves the flower's
real shape and gives the flower strength. After
optimum strength is reached, jewelry accessories
are soldered onto the plated pieces and then undergo
further electroplating for additional strength,
some with a final plating of 24K gold.
There
is also a small selection of colourful
'Orchid Silk' that is handwoven in small villages
in Thailand's Northeast and in Laos. Chose your
favorite colour and pattern for sewing a shirt,
skirt or costume.
For
sure, beautiful orchid hybrids are available
as well as some native orchids that we successfully
grew from seeds. However, it might not be allowed
to import certain species into some foreign countries.
In this case our orchid bottles are the better choice.
They are grown from seeds in a sterile bottle and
therefore exempted from any CITES regulation. They
contain 4 plants and normally there is a choice
of 5 or 6 different species available. As they are
in a sterile bottle, it normally does not cause
problems to take them home. Each bottle comes with
a detailed instruction for care of orchid seedlings
in English, French, German, Swedish, Czech and Russian
language. To download,
